STP4: NAMAQUALAND FLOWER AND MOUNTAIN HIKING TOUR FROM CAPE TOWN

DAY 1:

We depart from Cape Town directly towards Vanrhynsdorp where we will complete our first hiking trail in the Knersvlakte. Here we will see some endemic dwarf succulents which are one of the hidden treasures of the Knersvlakte growing between the white quartz stones.

DAY 2:

Today we visit Gifberg, part of the Matzikama mountain range, which is the northernmost mountains of the Cederberg mountain range. Gifberg has some truly unique rock formations. The mountain was named after the tree from which the San people gathered poison for their arrows and spears. The Bushman art (cave paintings) give a unique insight into the lifestyle of these San people that lived here before. These paintings are also some of the oldest in the world today.

DAY 3:

Next we explore Niewoudtville, the bulb-plant capital of the world. This area is known for its rich diversity fauna and flora and has some of the best flower displays you will ever see. Since this tour is during our flower season we will decide on the day which hiking trail will be the best to get the best view of the flowers.

DAY 4:

We drive through the Olifantsrivier-valley and turn towards Clanwilliam where we will visit the grave of the late great C.Louis Leipoldt. The grave is located in the Pakhuis-Mountains, so named for the way the rocks looks to be stacked on top of each other. Here we will also take a short hike and see why Louis Leipoldt loved the Cederberg so much. Finally we will make a final stop in the Piekenierskloofpas and, if time allows us, take a final hiking route before heading back to Cape Town to round of an unforgettable tour.

STP2: CEDARBERG - GIFBERG HIKING TOUR FROM CAPE TOWN

DAY 1:

At 08:00 we depart from Fountains Hotel in Cape Town, at 08:45 from Road Lodge Airport and at 09:30 from Cape Town International Airport (for flights that arrived before 09:00).We depart through the Swartland to Porterville where we shall hike the first trail of the tour. There is more than 20 waterfalls on this trail and promises to be an unforgetable tour. Our journey then continues through the Piekenierskloof Pass and Olifants River Valley to Vanrhynsdorp where we will be staying for 3 nights in our hotel, Namaqualand Country Lodge.

DAY 2:

After breakfast we depart for Gifberg, part of the Matzikama mountain range, the northernmost part of the Cedarberg mountain range. This mountain with its unique Tablemountain Sandstone rockformations, plant and animal life is sure to amaze the tourist. We will be hiking two trails - 2 km Potholes Walk and the 9 km Gifboom trail on Gifberg. Gifberg's flaura consists mainly of Cape Fynbos and here we find the very special Gifboom that is located only on this mountain, hence the name Gifberg. This plant was also used by San people in hunting expeditions. Numerous rock art is hidden in the unforgetable Gifberg and we will see evidence of these events.

DAY 3:

Today's hike is one of the well-known trails of the Cedarberg Mountains, the Wolfberg Cracks and Arch. Be sure to be stunned by the many wildlife and amazing rock formations to be seen on this 17km trail. The cracks are about 30 meters into the bowels of Wolfberg. There is also a large variety of animal life at the top and spectacular views over the Cedarberg Mountains. The Wolfberg Arch promises to leave you without words and your camera without memory. This is a 17km hike and is recommended for the experienced hiker. This rout will take us between 7 and 9 hours to complete depending on the group.

DAY 4:

An interesting West Coast day awaits us with coastal towns holding their own culture and way of life, not to be found anywhere else. The West coast is synonymous with lobster, snoek, bokkoms and hearty ‘West Coast People’. Our day is illuminated with spectacular sea views and West Coast towns such as Elands Bay, Dwarskersbos, Laaiplek, Velddrif and Langebaan. The Verlorenvlei and Rochers Pan are two of the birdwatchers' paradises along the coast. A soul enriched tour is ended in Cape Town. We shall drop the first tour members between 17:00 and 18:00 at Cape Town International Airport and Road Lodge Airport, and the last stop will be between 18:30 and 19:00 at Fountains Hotel, Cape Town.

Today our route is along the West Coast with all its beautiful unspoilt scenes. First we drive through Vredendal the main town in our region boasting with the biggest wine cellar on one premesis. We will see many vinyards along the way from Vredendal to Lutzville. Our walk starts at the picturesque West Coast fishing village of Doring Bay. We walk along the sea and strand with a little bit of rocky hills on the way to the beautiful holiday village Strandfontein. From here we hike along the beach and hills to the fishing village of Papendorp on the mouth of the Olifants River. This is a trail that varies from white beaches to a rocky coastline! On this route we will find various points that have great views over the ocean.

DAY 4:
